When I get my hands on some new software or game I always take the time to delve deep into its features and functions and see what it can really do. Not only the functions that you’re told you are limited to on the actual retail box. It was - without a doubt - not different in any way than when I got my R4 DS. Right away I went online to get all the info on homebrew gaming on the Nintendo DS.
I had read about some really cool applications for the DS and DSi. The app that truly got my blood pumping was a homebrew application called DSOrganize. You’ll need an R4 DS Card or an R4i for DSi in order to use this cool piece of software. This cool little piece of homebrew will turn your Nintendo DS or Nintendo DSi xl into your personal digital assistant - your hand held pda.
It’s something that I honestly feel should have been built right into the Nintendo DS, or at the very least, the new DSi console, but it was not. It just seems totally natural to me to actually use the DS that I’m carrying around with me anyway, to serve and function like more of a multi purpose device. Nintendo can’t claim the DS can’t do it - its more than powerful enough to do a lot of things besides just game play. Heck, nearly every cheap plastic cell phone even has this built right in.
However, DS Organize is anything EXCEPT limited. Once you put it on to your R4 DS and load it up on the Nintendo DS, you’re greeted with numerous options. You’ve got a calendar, day planner, a full address box that rivals that of any PDA and your daily todo list as an added bonus.
My absolute must have and most used function is the web browser that’s built in. We all know the DS and DSi have built in WiFi but no real browser to check out our favorite web sites on the internet. Thanks to the R4 DS Card and the DSOrganize software, you can now get online and start browsing the web effortlessly. While the browser is limited in this version, there are promises from the developer to improve it. You’ll be online no time with the browser - though it is still in its infancy it will have you surfing the net in no time.
DS organize is an amazing example of homebrew applications at work, given away for free to R4 DS owners
