Choosing the right kind of toy for your child is of course very important indeed as you want to help their mind develop at the same time as choosing something that is fun. It is not a case of I should be buying them many video games or many different forms of model kits but a combination of them both.

Video Gaming

There are so many people out there that moan about how video games are ruining the lives of children, this is a load of rubbish. There is no way at all there is anything wrong with playing video games as long as your children are playing the right games for them. The games out there are of course given the ratings they receive for good reason so know this well. Letting them get on with playing an 18+ game is essentially bad parenting as more often than not there is a lot of violence in these games. If you are stuck on what to do then look around the web, there are so many places out there worth looking into as they will give games reviews for the kids too.

Model Kits

Model kits like train sets and RC helicopter are great for kids, there is no doubt about this at all however the same thing applies, you need to make sure you are getting something suitable for their age range. By doing this it means you are far more likely to get your child into the hobby and trust me they will enjoy challenges more as the years roll by.

When it comes to making a decision it is not a choice between the newest video game and the newest toy, not by any means. It is about mixing it up as you do not want your child to just play with one thing.

Do Model Kits Need Video Games

August 2nd, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

A lot of people seem to think that things such as RC helicopters and model kits are dying out and that kids are far more interested in actually playing video games than messing around with what a lot of people would call “old toys”. Are there many arguments for and against this claim??

For

There are far more video game sales than things like model kits nowadays and this is because kids see much more fun in actually putting a video game straight into a games console and getting straight in than actually spending hours putting something together. I see the point when it comes to this, a lot of video games are played by myself. It is also true to say that video games offer a lot social things out to the people that play them. Xbox Live as well as the systems used on the PS3 and the Nintendo Wii allow people to chat to eachother whilst they are playing online, surely this is a good thing.

Against

It would seem that there are a lot more fans for model kits who spend a lot of time on things than there are video game players who are dedicated to it that much, is this something actually unique to the model industry do you think?. There are a lot of parents out there who will actually buy their children model kits so that they can bond with them, this is great. Note that model kits or in any case video games are not just for children or young people.

Working Together

The model industry knows very well that kids are interested in video games at the moment and there have been partnerships of model companies and video games companies so they can make models for the games. It really does make sense because people will buy both.

The rift is calming down a bit now because model companies have started to go along with the trends. Scalextric is something that video games haven’t looked at yet.
