With not many good games released so far and after a little bit of a dry spell, I thought this post would make sense to ensure that people are aware of the upcoming games for the rest of the year.

There have only been a handful of great game releases so far, some of which include X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena but this is all about to pick up and the next few months are certainly something to get excited about as you will see below.

The first large release is the next game in the Guitar Hero series, Guitar Hero Metallica which is due for release in just a few days. Whether you are a metal fan, guitar hero fan or just a Metallica fan, you will want this game because it contains a great setlist whatever you are a fan of.

Another game to be aware of in the near future is Terminator Salvation which is being released the same day as the game above, Guitar Hero Metallica. This game follows the storyline of the upcoming Terminator film, Terminator Salvation. It’s difficult to say whether the game will be up to scratch because it’s a movie game and the quality of these can sometimes dip.

Now, heading into the beginning of June, you can look forward to seeing some of the following:

The Sims 3, although I am not at all a fan of these games, no doubt this one will be massively popular and you can expect everything you love from the original games, aswell as a whole bundle of new features to discover.

The next game is Prototype, something slightly different with this one but hopefully it will be well made a fun to play. It would have been nice to get a demo of this game priar to release, however, this close to release date I don’t think we’ll be seeing one.

Every Batman fan will want to get this game, Batman Arkham Asylum. The new Batman Arkham Asylum game looks like it’s going to be good, just aslong as we aren’t let down by the quality. There is some worries about the release date though because it was planned for June however there was some news that it was going to be delayed.

Planned to be released on the same day as Batman is yet another movie based game, Ghostbusters. This is another game with some confusion behind it because there was some new recently that Sony had payed for exclusive rights for a period of time, but we’ll have to see how it pans out.

Now into July we will see the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince game which will be similar to the Terminator game as in the quality will be unknown because it’s a movie game. I’m pretty sure though that the majority of Potter fans will want to get hold of this game whether it’s good or not.

Now we get to the games that are set for release during the months later in the year and on the run up to Christmas. These include Dirt 2, the sequel to the amazingly popular Dirt game which brought rally racing games to life. Other games include Max Payne 3, another addition to the Rock Band series, The Beatles: Rock Band which also come with a range of brand new instruments. Other additions to the game calendar include Need for Speed Shift, Bioshock 2, Bad Company 2 and finally the much anticipated, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

There is certainly a huge amount of look forward to on the run up to Christmas and I’m sure that there will be a few more that pop up onto the radar in the next few months, most likely a few Guitar Hero games considering about 5 are planned for the rest of the year.

The best movie video games around right now

May 22nd, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

There’s been official movie video games pretty much as long as there have been the means to play video games. While a number of them have been great, a greater number have been sadly mediocre in pretty much every manner that made the feature films they are based on special. Currently, thankfully there is a bumper crop of movie video games on release to enjoy- a few of which might well be more interesting than the films themselves!

First up there is the new movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This all-action game is thankfully hugely better than the Wolverine film itself! Created by Raven Software, the Wolverine video game boasts a rather different story to the hit movie, but it does have Hugh Jackman’s voice and likeness. The game features all of Wolverine’s abilities, which are used in a cool way- in particular his healing factor.

As far as Marvel comics games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is extremely violent, as you’ll notice from the battlefield scattered with dismembered corpses and other delightful things. Well, Wolverine definitely has claws. Here you are able to make him use them to their full horrific effect.

Next there is the awesome game based on Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the time travelling cyborg sci-fi action film series. Where 3rd movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game counterpart were useless, this seems to be going hand in hand with the bold new vision of the new Terminator movie and is fantastic to look at and play. Here’s another example of how movie video games are getting better a great deal lately.

Now thanks to 2 player co-operative play, the Terminator story is catching up with other contemporary games such as blockbuster Gears of War series, permitting for some great split-screen adventure to be played out. Pair this with the remarkably rendered futuritic distopian world that the movie video game takes place in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the game, and you have one compelling prospect for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The highly anticipated Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is quite rightfully causing a big hubbub. With the revelation that the third Ghostbusters movie is finally going ahead, 20 years after Ghostbusters 2 came out, now is the perfect time to get reacquainted with the much loved Ghostbusters characters and situations. Let’s face it, the first movie is an absolute classic in every sense of the word, and at last there’s a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.

The plot of the new Ghostbusters game was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the classic first two Ghostbusters films, so the new game may even be canon to a certain extent. The classic original four Ghostbusters characters have been back as amazing digital representations of the stars, and the whole game looks superb. All of your vital stats are given on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a somewhat similar feel to Dead Space. With all of the classic creatures showing up in the game, fans will be delighted when they get hold of it for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.

After such a rash of lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems that the best new titles that are being released are being developed with much more respect for the original material and also what the fans demand out of a movie video game based on their favourite titles. These are the best three movie video games on the market right now, and hopefully they can help you unveil a vibrant new level of enjoyment from your favourite movies.

Upcoming video games to get excited about

March 8th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

With so many big game releases like Halo Wars, Killzone 2 and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X already come and gone, there are still so many more planned, I thought this would be a good post to write. So, that said, here are some of the games that you should be looking forward to throughout the next coming months and the entire year really.

  • Residient Evil 5 is the first one really worth mentioning, however, I personally won’t be buying this game, I just find it stupid how you can’t move and shoot or reload and shoot, but that’s just my opinion. I know that when this one is release on March 13th, it will be a huge hit.
  • Crysis: Maximum Edition - This isn’t a new game, but a box set of all the games rolled into one, you get Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars (the multiplayer) and if you haven’t yet played any of them, that will be the perfect box set for you. The game is planned to release on March 20th.
  • Singstar: Queen - March 20th.
  • Aliens: Colonial Marines. Not much has been said or relesed about this one, but my hopes are high for it. Odd release dates though for it, March 27th for PC and then unconfirmed for PS3 and Xbox 360.
  • Batman Arkam Asylum. I hope this is going to be a good game as I am a huge Batman fan. By the looks of the trailer you have to fight your way around Arkam Asylum to defeat the evil joker. It looks like seperate release dates are planned for the 360 and PS3, but I’m not convinced.
  • The Godfather 2 - 10/04
  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. If you coulnd’t put down the first Chronicles of Riddick game, then you should love this one. with voices of Vin Diesel and still with a bit of FPS and hand combat involved, it should be a good game. April 24th is when it’s hitting the shops.
  • Fuel - I have only seen a few screenshots for this one, and it looks alot like the PS3 game, Motorstorm. I just hope that it’s going to be a good racing game.
  • XMen Origins: Wolverine. This is obviously a movie game so who knows what it will be like, some are good, yet some are bad, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
  • Terminator Salvation - 22/05
  • Prototype - A strange one, you play as a genetically modified person who now has super powers, might be good. Set for release in June 2009
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction - This game has been in development for a long long time so it really carries alot of expectations but lets hope it will be released when they say this time, June 2009.
  • The Sims 3 - Although alot of people play the Sims games, I hate them, simply because I think they have milked it too much. The amount of expansions that have been released is insane, but I know people will really want it, so here it’s in the list.
  • Ghostbusters - Who ya gonna call? June 19th
  • Dirt 2 - 9/09
  • Tekken 6 - 25/09
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - This game was only announced recently but it will definitely be a massive hit, with the amount of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s sold and the amount of awards it picked up, this sequel will hopefully be even better.
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2

It looks like a pretty good upcoming year for games. Hopefully no game publishers or developers will go bust, fingers crossed.
