My Kids Play Too Many Video Games

March 14th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

All my kids talk about getting every year for Christmas is video games if they don’t go downstairs and find Gears of War 2 under our new flocked christmas tree I do not know how they will survive. It makes me a little nuts since I do all I can to get my kids outdoors. I would much rather give them a pair of new skates or golf clubs then some mind numbing thing that will enchant them in front of the television. Alas, I suppose boys will be boys. Fighting with them is just too much work.

After saying that I guess I should get to the point that I’ve developed a few ways to control their television addiction. I do a couple of things in an effort to force them outside. The first way I try to accomplish my goal is by limiting time that can be spent in front of them television to only one hour per day. I find placing a limit is important because then they know that anything above that is a privilege. I do give them some ways to earn more time in front of the television. That leads me into my second trick. They have a few options to earn more television time, either playing outside or doing some chores for me. I like the chores option because it is nice for me to have a few less things to do, and the reward for them isn’t bad either. I set it up so it ends with one hour of chores earning one hour of television time.

The second way they earn time, by going outside, is a little less rewarding. When they go outside and play nice I allow them 15 minutes of gaming to every hour of outside time. Like I say this isn’t a huge payoff, but I also don’t really think asking them to be outside is a huge thing to ask. That option works the best of their long Saturdays where they spend the majority of the day outside anyway. They can play outdoors for the day on Saturday and then spend the night playing video games. Realistically a night of playing games and watching movies isn’t so bad after a full day outside.

That being said I’m ok with one or two ending up under artificial flocked christmas tree this year if it has the effect of getting my brats outside and getting some stuff done around the house for me. They had better like the games they’re getting, because I know I’ll like my “gift” of one more thing to use “against” my boys.

Children Can Learn From Computer Games

March 9th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

How much can you allow your kids to play games? Do you limit the amount of time that kids can spend in front of the TV? Or you can just outlaw video games? Either way, are you the parent who teaches their children moderation?

If you are the parent who sees value in everything you’ll show your kids that video games can be more than just a waste of time. The thought that video games rot the brain has been proved false. Research speaks highly of the video games’ capacity in line with challenging the brain so it could work its way in a variety of ways. Traditionally when we think of studying we think of a book and memorization.

How Can Video Games Be Useful
If you’ve ever had kids you know if they have their way the first thing they do when they get home is to run to the television. They wouldn’t even eat if they didn’t have to. They really would rather being playing games then doing homework. Now what they are actually unaware of is the fact that they are exercising their brains apart from their thumb muscles. How do they do this? Kids need to learn the rules as well as how to strategize to use the right tactics to win the game. They then learn the strategies to solve the big puzzle to end up winning. They are able to lay out the plan to solve the problem that lies before them. Reading I enjoy about video games for sale.

The Brain and How it Learns

As per the brain imaging findings, the human brain is able to meet the transitions through constant practice. When one has a certain task to complete, the brain grows in size and therefore becomes more familiar with the activity at hand. Experts agree that playing those video games lessens the chances of acquiring dementia and it is one effective way of acquiring a visual language which could be applicable in other real-life situations.

Quick reaction time is necessary for success in video games. The player is able to look into the proofs presented, analyze the situation at hand, and bring out challenges for the brain to solve. Among those that you could let your children play with are Tetris, Nintendo Games, Slam Dunk, and a lot others that don’t involve violence. A few games I like (to get you started) look for Afro Samurai for sale and Alpha Protcol for sale

Many kids enjoy playing any game at all. That is based on the fact that kids say what they are thinking free of a sensor. What they don’t realize is that they have fun in learning. Often these games cause self reflection. The development of a technique heavily relies on the child’s ability to perceive things and how he could make these things easier to achieve. Needless to say, video games could be good for the brain development.

Why Are More Females Playing Video Games?

January 31st, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

Instead of a dough roller and dolls now women are filling their hands with remotes and consoles. No, this is not a protest over the domestic roles they normally hold, but due to a number of reasons. Here is my opinion on my more and more females are playing video games.

Really all I use my computer for is my stock trading, but my wife likes to play games to that lead me to my question. The number one reason is the growing interest that women have in tech. More women are into learning new fields whereas in the old days, only household chores are to be expected from them. When we say technology, not only washing machines, vacuum cleaners and microwave ovens are the things that women are involved with. The graphics and sound effects that the video games have are cool and girls seem to be as attracted to them as men are. They are not afraid to tinker with the buttons or make mistakes, so long as they are learning.

A big factor is financial stability. As girls hold paying jobs they can both afford to play video games, and deserve to as a stress reliever. However, be assured that there are times the practical nature would kick in and prefer for equipment far more essential to everyday chores before indulging in the cyber entertainment. This is a significant reason why more women are playing video games as it is one of the determinants of achievement.

The third major reason is that game development has focused a lot more on women than it used to. A lot of games revolve around action and adventure, most common of which are set in the war field. There is a number of the fairer sex also into playing them but as the game developers have seen a potential market aside from the men and the kids, more games are designed to accommodate that market. More games today are targeted at the female demographic with softer graphics and story-lines, even tho these games are also popular with many males.

The number four reason is pure enjoyment, the same reason as most men. Sewing, cooking and cleaning are no longer an area of “entertainment” for women, so their hobbies have grown along with the forwarding of technology. I’m never surprised when I see a woman with a gaming console playing it during a her free time.

Fifth reason why more women are playing video games is to be in a competition against the men. Although this is a friendly match, they do participate in the thrill of the game and at times would be heralded as the winners.

The trend in the society has changed. Gone are the days where men are dumbfounded - or even furious on occasion - upon finding women whose interest pushes far from the four walls of their house. When more girls play video games, there is now a point of interest shed between males and females that they can compete in. Video games give women one more topic for girls to discuss with men on dates alongside of sports, movies, politics, and other ventures that men and women can share. Apart from social benefits of women being able to play video games, the enjoyment probably outweighs any benefit by giving women a good avenue of expression and a place to vent their frustration. For christmas this year it looks like I’ll have to find a copy of cheap legend of zelda.

Computers Are Too Violent for Kids

January 30th, 2009 by admin | No Comments | Filed in Playstation 2 Games, Playstation 3 Games, Playstation Games

The more vivid the graphics, the better. The race to increased market sales is on for different gaming manufacturers as almost every month, state-of-the-art technology are incorporated with each video game. Sometimes characters come almost to life and the player is given so many details that most people would rather not see - like gory scenes. As fast as these stores empty their shelf-full of games is the rise of a question that are met with different reactions: Are video games too violent?

Naturally, there are two opposing sides on this question. On one hand are those who believe that the games aren’t, specifically the gamers and the developers themselves. Mainly people need to know how much dicipline the gamer has, and that could affect the extent of the influence. It is a battle of self-control and putting things in the right perspective. If there are gamers who are reported to be violent after a couple of hours playing, then the assumption would be the lack of discipline, and not because of the game itself.

On the flipside of the coin, that argment is the same as the people who do think games are too violent make. The powerful emotional response is brought on by the action and effects that is so realistic that people cant detach themselves from it. Reality can only be shown as how things are, while it is sometimes exagerated, it really need to be based on real life.

There is an argument to be made either way, but we still don’t know if it really causes gamers to turn violent. The debate could possiably go on forever, but there are many ways that games can do this without retaining any effects. {Firstly everyone should have a maximum number of hours dedicated to video games every day}. These are especially for people who have not much will-power to identify reality from not. Following a schedule will help you learn that discipline.

Second is to know when to stop. When you find yourself overly invested in the death of a in game character take a deep breath. Not only does it clear your mind, it helps your body normalize as well after the surge of adrenaline. Third is for parents, who are allowing their kids to play video games. At a young age, discipline should already be imbibed at this crucial formative stage. Once a child has been affected then the effects are hard to remove, so parents need to be vigilant. If you want a game that is fun and not overly violent then you should think about buy legend of zelda namely buy the adventure of link.

Being objective can be hard when you are talking about violence and tech as there are many opinions. What can be said for certain is that you need to understand video games to determine if they are too violent.
