So How Can You Fix Overheating? Well, as I said above, overheating is the root cause. In order to fix this, the console would have to be completely redesigned. Since we can’t do that, we have to figure out another way to avoid the components in the console from flexing and breaking the connections. This is commonly called the X-clamp fix and has to do with modifying the X-clamps (2 X-shaped clamps inside the console) that cause stress o the graphics board when it gets too hot.
The good news is, if you are even the least bit handy with some basic tools you can fix the Xbox 360 yourself. You need to remember that if your Xbox is under warranty and you attempt to fix it yourself the warranty will be voided. As long as you understand that, fixing your Xbox 360 problems is actually pretty easy. It really only requires that you can follow some basic directions and take your time in the process. If you can operate a small screw driver and cresent wrench you can rid your Xbox 360 of the Red Rind of Death.

If your console is still under the 1 year manufacturing warranty and is getting 3 red lights, then you might want to consider sending it off to Microsoft for repair.
