Wow is now close to 6 years old and was released on 24/11/2004. Regardless of age, the game is still performing well and dominates the genre. The 3rd expansion is coming later this year and will hopefully be as good as the previous 2. There will be some amazing new features to the upcoming expasion, including the ability to fly in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor with more wow macros.
No other MMO game comes close to the userbase of wow, with well over eight million players. Wow has been the most successful MMO out of all the ones released in its time. Many have come and gone in the time Wow has been on our shelves. There is a lot of hype about the new star wars game, maybe it will be able to compete with wow. The old republic is set to be big, with a proven developer and a large franchise.
Some of the more hardcore World of Warcraft fans have complained about the game becoming too easy, and a lot have left to play Ultima Online which is well known for being complex. The developers know that if they have a more accessible game, they will make more money from subscriptions!
Farmville has recently become increadibly popular as a browser based MMO title. This simple game is a possible threat to the way future MMOs will be developed. You currently have to put quite a bit of time into subscription based MMOs, but Farmville is the opposite of this. MMOs of the future could be more like Farmville, as it is setting future expectations of the genre. Younger players of free browser based MMOs might now be put off by games which have a higher learning curve like wow. Death Knight Macros.
