Fishing is one of the WoW’s secondary professions, together with cooking and first aid, which is considered as one of the most difficult to level up. Up to the Burning Crusade expansion, fishing wasn’t even appreciated as a very useful profession. Together with the expansion in cooking which brought us many new food recipes useful for raids, fishing finally became more wanted and valued as a secondary profession. With the WOTLK expansion, Fishing became valued as never before. There is a completely new achievement system that makes leveling secondary professions very fun, new fishing daily quests and new buff-rich recipes that are further increasing popularity of fishing. A player who manages to complete all of the achievements in fishing will be awarded with a title “Salty”, which is considered as one of the more difficult ones to earn, and with not many players wearing it. In order to get this title you will need to do series of fishing achievements like The Coin Master which has three parts - A Penny For Your Thoughts, Silver in the City and There’s Gold In That There Fountain. You will also need to win on a Sunday’s Booty Bay fishing contest for the Master Angler of Stranglethorn achievement, do all of the five fishing daily quests found in Dalaran for the Chasing Marcia achievement, fish from different types of fish schools in Outland and Northrend, etc.
Fishing is not only a very useful, but also a very lucrative profession. If you decide to level up fishing you don’t need to level up cooking as well, however, these two professions are a perfect match so an advice would be to level them both together.
How to earn gold from fishing?
Well, the answer is simple - fish! You can just go to certain areas on the map and find fishing spots and just fish. Selling raw fish is also very profitable and stacks of various fishes are sold on the Auction House in the split of a second. It will be even more profitable if you have cooking leveled up as well, as you will be able to sell finished food. There are various foods made from fish that can increase stats of any class, like spell power, spirit, stamina, hit rating, crit rating, haste rating, agility, strength, attack power, etc.
There are some special foods like the one for pets of hunters and for the whole group or raid, the Fish Feast. The fishes for this feast can be caught throughout Northrend zones and require Northern Spices obtainable through cooking daily quests in Dalaran. The Fish Feast is useful because anyone in your group/raid can eat it and receive 80 attack power, 46 spell power and 40 stamina bonus on stats for 1 hour. We can say with certainty that fishing is very useful and that together with cooking it belongs to the professions that can boost your character as well as your friends and guildies. However, most of the players who leveled up fishing say that this profession is very hard to level since its leveling goes quite slow compared to other professions.
In order to level fishing, a player needs to have an adequate fishing pool equipped, plenty of lures which will serve as a fishing skill increase buff and to choose the zone that suits them best for fishing. Other than that, as in real life so in WoW, you will need a lot of patience. The process of fishing goes slow since you need to wait a few seconds for a fish to bite.
Although it may seem slow, do not give up on it. Wait a bit and if you aren’t in a rush you can level up your fishing skill to a certain point and then start doing the dailies. Your leveling will be much easier and more rewarding from that point on. For a comprehensive guide on all aspects of WoW check out the Ultimate WoW Guide Review
