In order to make items that are enchanted you first require items that are not enchanted. In order to aquire the reagents needed to enchant other items, you may also need to disenchant other magical items. Enchanting can also be used to create oils that can be applied to a weapon in order to fill it with temporary enhancements that can be combined along with permanent enchantments for a greater effect.

What enchanting does is allow you to enchant weapons and armor to enhance them for permanent gains. You take existing itmes and add properties to them, you do not create new items. You can also take apart existing enchanted items to gain the reagents in them for crafting new enchanted items. Not only do you take things apart and create new ones, but you can create temporarily effective oils and enchantments for addition to a weapon during a battle. These temporary changes can be added to already enchanted weapons and armor for further effect as well.

Though you can create great new weapons with enchantment, disenchanting will actually destroy many more items than any other professions in the game. Many of the bi-products you receive from deconstructing items cannot be resold and are thus pure waste. You can sell them to other players or sell your services though, one of the prime ways of making gold through enchanting.

Because disenchanting requires the destruction of the original magical item, this makes Enchanting a greater consumer of resources than any of the other World of Warcraft Professions. This is especially so due to the fact that the bi-products such as shards, essences, and dust that you receive from the disenchanted items cannot be sold to vendors. You can offer them your services in exchange for payment or sell them to your fellow WoW players.

Beginning wirth gray items and simple enchantments is the best way to build up your enchanting skills. You can build your skill level by selling items back to vendors for a profit. Once you’ve been enchanting for a while, start using instances and higher level arenas to farm reagents and items for disenchanting. You’ll build levels, gold, and items for enchantment in this manner.
