World of Warcraft Death Knight Guide
Roles: Tanking, Damage and Buffs.
Notes for WotLK Expansion (obviously)
The Death Knight - The First hero class of the World of Warcraft. So what is this hero class exactly?Thankfully you do not have to start all the way back at level 1. If you have another character at level 55 then you can start a Death Knight at level 55.
The Death Knight is a a hybrid warrior and mage.Offering all the benefits of a high level plate wearing tank along with the fun of a dark magic calling mage to inflict massive amounts of pain on your foes. Along with the “you must already have a character at level 55″ another catch with the Death Knight, is that you also have to create the Death Knight on the SAME server as that character.
So, starting gear. Good news, you don’t start empty handed. In addition to your 16 slot backpack you get a 12 slot bog and some decent starting gear but no talent points. But once you reach level 58 you get a good amount of points (49) to use how you see fit and a new riding mount along with some nice gear and enough experience to start moving outside the starting area.
WoW Death Knight Class Guide
The Death Knight is a very unique class in WoW, that goes without saying, even though I just said it, anyway, don’t forget the main role of the Death Knight is still a tank, there is a reason it has plate armour, so don’t get confused with all the dark magic. The best suited talent tree for Death Knight as a tank is the Frost-specced DK, whereas the Blood and Unholy talent specifications while offering good DPS, also have buff and secondary abilities for groups, which make these two talent specs good off-tank specs.
Strengths:
- Can wear all armor types and wield most weapons
- Mixes melee attacks with Frost and Shadow ranged spells
- Rune system means virtually unlimited energy
- Blood abilities provide self healing
- Can return at will to the Ebon Hold
- Free mounts and weapon enchants available only to death knights
- A hero class: begins at level 55
Weaknesses:
- Can’t use shields or ranged weapons
- More dependent on abilities than passive defense for survivability
- Dependent on rune cooldowns and runic power generation
Allowed races: All
Equipment: Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate Mail
Weapons: Axes, Polearms, Swords, Two-Handed Axes, Two-Handed Swords, One-handed Maces, Two-Handed Maces.
