RSSWho Said Games Controllers Were Boring?

There can’t be many people who do not know the three main games consoles that have become such a normal part of our daily lives. Everyone compares the PS3 with the Wii and with the Xbox 360 on the basis of quality of graphics but we should also look at how they are operated using the games controllers provided in the budle you buy.
You probably don’t think much about the importance of the controllers you use but the manufacturers spend a lot of time on design and here we look at how they compare. We were all impressed with the first Xbox and the controller that came as part of the bundle supplied is known as the duke controller.
Microsoft was quick to discover that the controller supplied was just too big and so people didn’t like to use it. In response they quickly released a different design which was more acceptable to the public and is more like the 360 controller you get today.
The the Xbox 360 version is now the most comfortable and easiest to use controller available. The controller for the Playstation 3 while it may look a little different is not as different as you might think.
There are not that many changes to the controller for the PS2 with a couple of internal changes. The first controller Sony supplied was more revolutionary but the new control layout was soon abandoned.
There seems little doubt that the reason was that the controller didn’t work as well as the time-tested PS2 one. The right descision may have been made in the end but Sony will have to get it right when they release their next games platform.
There is nothing basically wrong with the current system but gamers are going to want more from their games and their controllers in future. There are fewer customers with spare money these days and the release of new games consoles might be put off for a year or two before gamers get what they want.
The last machine we look at is the Wii games systems from Nintendo which are a breath of fresh air. The Wiimote controller you get with the Wii bundle is very different and hard to compare to the other games system controllers.
Nintendo’s wiimote is such a change and a completely original approach to the idea that you interact with the characters on screen. They are more advanced than any other controller we have seen over the last twenty years.
Technology sometimes puts cleverness over customer appreciation but here it is great fun for us as gamers and there is little doubt that the next generation of gamers will consider this is the way to play. When the Wii bundles were first released hardened gamers dismissed the lack of powerful graphics computer chips though they didn’t realise what a great change the controllers introduced.
Gamers everywhere will be looking forward to anything different in the next round of new games console releases and what their and if price is no problem these are the ones to get. I would expect them to be very similar to the wiimote and give us a whole new era in gaming enjoyment.
