Shamans - The Spiritcallers

In WoW, there are a few hybrid classes and the Shaman class is one of those. For quite a while Shamans as a class were available only to the Horde while Alliance had Paladins in exchange. However, this has changed since the release of the Burning Crusade and Shamans also became available to the Alliance players with the Draenei race.
Shamans resemble Druids in few things such as in their ability to change spec from healing to dps caster and to melee dps as well. There are three talent builds they can choose from - Enhancement (melee dps), Elemental (caster dps) and Restoration (healer). When one chooses Elemental branch of the talent tree he is definitely into playing his Shaman as a dps caaster. In order to be good, you will need to gather gear that has a lot of spell power and crit, haste and hit rating.Click here for more on the ultimate leveling guide: WoW Ultimate Leveling Guide.
If your choice falls on a melee dps, than the right talent tree for you would definitely be the Enhancement tree. This kind of build will require a Shaman to wear armor enriched with a lot of Agility. An Enhancement Shaman will possess the ability to call upon two allies - the ghost wolves to fight by his side. This ability is especially important for a Enhancement Shaman with a PvP build.
A Restoration Shaman is considered to be a great healer. He has single target heals and also his chain heal is a very useful spell since it will heal a few targets with the lowest hp. Earth shield is another very useful spell a Shaman can put on himself, a party member or a tank who is receiving damage. Shaman healers need a lot of mana regeneration - mp5 on their gear as well as the spell power.
A Shaman wears mail armor even though he can also equip pieces of gear made from cloth and leather. While leveling up to some point they will have to wear leather since the ability to wear mail will not be available to them. At the higher levels it is strongly suggested to wear mail since this kind of armor is a lot stronger then leather or cloth. Mail armor made for Shimmies is rich in stats and it has intellect, similar to the armor of a Hunter since Shamans are also mana consumers. Many players will tell you that Enhancement build is great for leveling. As an Enhancement Shaman you will not need much mana since most of your skills are melee and therefore your leveling will go much faster. Do not forget to put some points in a special ability - the ghost wolf form since it will enable you to turn into your ghost wolf instantly!.
Another thing which made Shamans very popular in groups, raids and in PvP are their totems. A Shammy has totems four different types of totems - Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The strength of his totems will depend on his build and in any case with the use of totems, a Shammy can boost his group drastically. Only one totem can be used per type of element, so a total of four totems can be active at the time.
The Shaman class is a fun class for leveling and playing both PvE and PvP, since they are able to change their role when needed. Playing a Shaman will not get you bored easily because of the options at hand.
