I suggest going for the Defias if you are in Elwynn forest, as these drop money, as well as drops needed for quests. If you are in Dun Morogh, stick with the trolls. You will get items which can be sold and money.
Quests are another way to earn alot of gold. Also, once you hit level 10, dont just rush forward to the next area. You can now travel around the world. Now you can go quest in the other starting areas. It shouldnt take much time since you are higher level than most of the creatures. If geared properly, you should be making a lot of gold. It also will help build your reputation which will become critical later in the game. It is a good idea to go to the other areas while you still get experience and run their quests.
Once you reach around level 35 you should be able to start soloing Deadmines. It is one of the best grinding areas at low levels. just drop any white or greys and make sure you have the biggest bags available. Sometimes I have to drop some of the greens i get, because of room in my bags. Check the auction house before you go to know what to drop and what to keep.

Learning to use the auction house can be one of the most rewarding investments of time in. If you watch the auction house, you can flip items for profit. Flipping is just a matter of finding items that are selling way under market value, buying them, then reposting them at a higher price. you can price items for almost double what you payed. Also, make sure you take into account any auction house fees you paid, as these cut into your profits.
You can make alot money by choosing the right professions. It is advisable to use gathering professions for making money if you are new. Skinning and mining are very easy to level and the items you get can sell very well. when mining you should check your auction house to see if raw ores or smelted ores sell better. This is can vary by server. Ususally i find the raw ores sell better, as they are used by blacksmiths who just dont want to spend the time farming for materials, and by jewelcrafters for prospecting. However I have seen some servers where smelted ores generally sold better.
With the introduction of Inscriptioning, herbalism can also be very profitable.
