Kids nowadays are always wanting to have the latest rapid fire mods and many would do anything to have their dads get them rapid fire chip. Video games have become a way for parents to keep their kids occupied and the modding xbox controller is becoming a favorite baby-sitter, allowing parents not to worry much about their kids. Are there any consequences of this mentality? Let’s consider just a few pros and cons of this new fad.
Advantages
* Social factor- kids who were previousely very timid have been said to open up after playing video games.
* Forget Pain- video games are loved by kids with serious illness or injuries. They feel less pain when they focus on the game.
* Creativity Boost- majority of vid games involve a hind of creativity. Its a good way for kids to explore their creative side.
* Enhances Cognitive Skills- games usually have some puzzles or other forms of problem solving in them. Kids learn to think and solve problems.
* Self Confidence- all children feel a sense of accomplishment in the games they play. Being able to excel in something even video games will boost their self confidence in other things.
Cons
* Ruins the eyes- hours spent in front of screens are known to destroy ones’ vision. The childs whole life will be affected if his/her eyesight gets damaged that early.
* Time consuming- video games are definitely addictive and if kids get hooked on them, school work, family time and other recreation will be pushed aside. They won’t enjoy a healthy childhood.
* No physical work involved- many kids who are hooked on games end up becoming obese. Kids with weight issues will be prone to teasing at school and are more likely to have health problems.
* Money down the drain- if you think about it, all the games plus electricity used when playing amount to a lot of money. It’s money that would have been far useful somewhere else.
* Violence- today’s games aren’t innocent! They are full of gore and violence. It has been found that kids who were exposed to very violent games as kids are more likely to become violent or even criminals.
* It’s wrong- letting video games do the baby-sitting is’t good at all. Video games have become a major cause for all the lack of communication many families have.
Well, those are facts. Though video games do have their advantages, you’d want to think twice before giving in to your child’s pleas. Never should video take the place of good parenting.
