The flashing Red Lights on your XBox indicate different things wrong, with a different number of lights. What could be wrong with your Xbox:
Xbox 360 1 Red Light: If you see 1 Red Light, you can blame the scaler chip and will need to have this repaired. You could get an error message with E74 or another E code.
Xbox 360 2 Red Lights: This is overheating of the motherboard and to fix this you can try giving the console a good dust out and making sure that it is getting enough air.
XBox 360 3 Red Lights: If you see 3 Red Lights, most often this indicates a hardware failure. If you have this problem it is because the GPU and the CPU have overheated and the soldering has snapped off. One more thing that needs to be repaired.
Xbox 360 4 Red Lights: 4 Red Lights is normally just the AV cable that is not plugged in correctly. To fix this, all you have to do is make sure it is plugged in firmly to your TV and the console, and it will work for you.
Now you have figured out what is wrong with your Xbox 360, how do you fix it?
You really have 2 choices. You can either send it back to Microsoft and they will fix it for you, this is a good choice. The only bad thing about this is the waiting time and you can expect to wait for 6 weeks for a fix.
The other way that you can fix it is to repair it yourself using an Xbox 360 Repair Guide which is basically a collection of step by step videos and also text files that show you how to stop the heat build up that causes all these problems in the first place.
The guide also explains fixes in layman’s terms for those of you who are not so technical in the fix department.
Many gamers have been able to fix their Xbox 360 in a matter of minutes using this guide.
